Biography
Maurice van den Akker is as team manager mobile and product manager eduroam responsible for the strategy, business model and deployment of wireless network services of SURFnet. He is also active as business developer mobile connectivity within the GN3 project. He joined SURFnet in 2002, after being a consultant for data networks in the telecom industry for several years. Maurice holds master degrees in MBA, Computer Science and Technology Management.
Abstract
Seamlessly integrated 4G and eduroam
Bring your own device and mobile communications are becoming extremely important within higher education and research domains. Trusted, open, hi-speed, affordable and reliable wireless access to the Internet is therefore hugely important. In this talk, the question is addressed how institutes and NRENs together can encourage the market to provide them with excellent and seamless integrated access to the campus network using 4G technology. Experiences from a live campus pilot in the Netherlands are shared.
